A Coastal Country Kitchen

June 2017

Having undergone an extension and refurbishment works, this family home down on the Kent coastline was in need of a spacious and welcoming kitchen suitable for use by all the family. The homeowners wanted a classic, country style kitchen, with all the added benefits of contemporary living; our Wellsdown country kitchen is just that.

With such a big, open plan space to work with, our design team were able to make great use of all available space, and the natural light flooding into the room through large glass doors is a real added bonus.

Hand painted in Mylands 'Pure White' with oak worktops, our Wellsdown kitchen brings such a refreshing vibe to this beautiful family home, and the freestanding design  allows space for a dining table and a breakfast bar, without compromising storage space.

An island is a great way of adding additional storage and worktop space to your kitchen, and is also a lovely way of adding a pop of colour to your home! Hand painted in Mylands 'Morning Blue' with oak worktop and hand carved Butt & Bead panelling, this bespoke kitchen island adds to the country vibe of the kitchen, complemented perfectly by the glass display cupboards, custom made plate rack and stunning double Belfast sink.

It is the added touches that really make a bespoke kitchen unique to you, and our design team work closely with our clients every step of the way, to ensure their dreams and ideas are brought to life. These pull-out wicker baskets were handmade to fit within the kitchen island perfectly, and are great for storing vegetables such as onions and potatoes.

Drawer space can often be overlooked in generic kitchen design, but at Burlanes, we think it is just as important for your kitchen to look as beautiful on the inside as it does on the outside. That is why all of our drawer boxes are dovetailed, and are handmade using only the finest oak wood. With small children, safety is also paramount; this hand carved drawer box is a great way of storing knives and other sharp objects out of harm's way.

A prep sink is a great addition to any kitchen that can often be overlooked. In this family kitchen, the prep sink is perfect for preparing food and vegetables for family meal times, or for making drinks and rinsing glasses when entertaining guests.

In the days before fridges, nearly all homes had a larder. They have now well and truly made a come back and are high on the kitchen design wish list with Burlanes clients and have become one of our most sought-after fixtures. Hand made and painted to order in your exact specifications, a Burlanes larder truly is unique to you and your family. With low level pull-out drawers, this larder is perfect for when little helpers are in the kitchen, and the racks keep herbs, spices and glass jars up high out of reach.

The second larder with motion sensor lights and bi-folding doors gives this kitchen the real 'wow factor'. Handmade to the exact required dimensions, this larder fills the space perfectly, and oozes sophistication and class with oak worktop and interior, boasting adjustable shelving, plate racks and even plug sockets for the family coffee machine, toaster and microwave.

Despite having a large integrated fridge/freezer, the homeowners wanted additional fridge space to store their fruit and vegetables, so our design team incorporated chiller drawers into this stunning larder. That is the beauty of handmade, bespoke furniture; you really can put what you want, where you like. If you can dream it, Burlanes can make it.

Having being so pleased with their kitchen, the homeowners also commissioned Burlanes to design and make cupboard and storage space elsewhere in their home. The hallway of this home is beautifully spacious, and almost feels like a room in itself. Our handmade floor-to-ceiling cupboards line the walls perfectly, and give the family organised storage space to hide shoes, bags, hats and scarves. The family had already chosen the storage boxes they would like to use, so we designed and made the cupboards to suit.

Tucked away in the corner of the beautiful garden, the family have a hot tub, and needed a storage solution for the towels, robes, slippers and cleaning products. Burlanes were able to design and hand make a cupboard to fit perfectly by the back door, making use of and maximising all available space, and in keeping with the rest of the home.

We provide a bespoke service from the first meeting to the final handover of a project. By listening to our clients' needs and working with them closely every step of the way; the result is a living space that works for lifestyle and budget.
